Hello all, we have produced this newsletter to make you, our community, aware of the massive happenings that have been undertaken within our Scout Troop over the last couple of years.  We also thank you wholeheartedly for the continued support, investment and inspiration that you have given us in becoming one of the biggest Scout Groups Northside of Dublin.

Membership

Membership is at a 20 year high, pushing 150 members throughout our four sections, Leadership Team and Committee and coming from all areas within the Parish.  Unfortunately due to such high demand, we have had to recently open waiting lists in the Beavers, Cub and Scout sections as the hall is just not big enough.

If anyone is interested in joining any of these sections we advise turning up between those allocated times and placing your name on a waiting list.  Currently the waiting lists are very small, as they’ve only been introduced so the wait should only be a matter of weeks.

Also if your child is turning 6 before September 2010 and you would like them to join the Beaver section we recommend you come to the Scout Den and put their names down now due to a massive demand for places within the section.

Zambia 2010

On the back of recent Summer Camps to Luxembourg, Sweden and Switzerland, we have teamed up with the charity Zamda (www.zamda.ie) and we are sending twenty of our members to Kabwe in Zambia.  We will partake in the building of a new school and the setting up of a Scout Troop for the street children of Sables Drop in Centre.  This is the biggest achievement and undertaking in our groups 53 year history.

We plead you to get behind us and support us in the undertaking of a series of fundraising events over the next few months, and are looking for people to help out and organise events or even sponsor us.  You can contact us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .  Our first major fundraiser is a Christmas sleigh push complete with carol singers which will travel right through the parish so look out for us on Tuesday 22nd of December.  Happy Christmas and New Year.

Thank You

A huge thank you has to go out to our community.  To the parents of the children currently involved in our group for your belief and support, for all the lifts to events and most importantly for keeping your child interested.  To any former parents or members your contribution will never be forgotten and still lives on through the current regime in Donnycarney.

A massive thank you also goes to Craobh Chiárain GAA club and the Donnycarney Youth Project who have always been available with facilities or support whenever asked, with these three organisations within out parish no child or teenager can ever claim they have nothing to do.
